OK, so it's probably not exactly what you were expecting... It's pro-life art...
BROOKLYN (March 22, 2006) --- A nude Britney Spears on a bearskin rug while giving birth to her firstborn marks a 'first' for Pro-Life. Pop-star Britney Spears is the "ideal" model for Pro-Life and the subject of a dedication at Capla Kesting Fine Art in Brooklyn's Williamsburg gallery district, in what is proclaimed the first Pro-Life monument to birth, in April.
Dedication of the life-sized statue celebrates the recent birth of Spears' baby boy, Sean, and applauds her decision of placing family before career. "A superstar at Britney's young age having a child is rare in today's celebrity culture. This dedication honors Britney for the rarity of her choice and bravery of her decision," said gallery co-director, Lincoln Capla. The dedication includes materials provided by Manhattan Right To Life Committee."Monument to Pro-Life: The Birth of Sean Preston," believed Pro-Life's first monument to the 'act of giving birth,' is purportedly an idealized depiction of Britney in delivery. Natural aspects of Spears' pregnancy, like lactiferous breasts and protruding naval, compliment a posterior view that depicts widened hips for birthing and reveals the crowning of baby Sean's head.
The monument also acknowledges the pop-diva's pin-up past by showing Spears seductively posed on all fours atop a bearskin rug with back arched, pelvis thrust upward, as she clutches the bear's ears with 'water-retentive' hands.
Lactiferous breasts and protruding naval? That's what's fueling the rumors that Brit and KFed are expecting #2, and leading Donald Trump to wonder, ""What has happened to Britney?"
More pictures from the exhibit below.
Apparently you'll have to visit Capla Kesting Fine Art in New York for that posterior view...

OH BALONEY!!!!!! Britney is going to kill her kids one of these days through her lack of maturity. She is no model for pro life or otherwise. It's not like she accidentally got pregnant and made a choice to keep the baby. She's made it clear that she's wanted a baby since she was pre-pubescent. And now that she's got one and another on the way she's finding that motherhood in itself does not make her special nor does it make her a star. This is just a blatant attempt to rally support/interest in a cause by attracting celebrity gawkers.

I'm still trying to figure out if this was actually sanctioned by Britney Spears - if it was, well damn! Is brain damage genetic? This is an unholy alliance between kitch, extreme bad taste and a fantasy-land view of birthing only someone who had never experienced it could sculpt. Best to melt it down for scrap and draw the curtains...

I think it is actually quite attractive, but it looks nothing like Britney. I witnessed birth before and it is not that attractive at all. Her face seems too surreal and if the baby is crowning she should look like she is screaming "you mother f...ker - how could you do this to me?????" However, the position on the hands and knees seems quite realistic as I am told it is more comfortable than lying on you back with your legs in the air. (My sister had 6 kids, so I think she has had enough experience.) I do not know why Britney was chosen to be the model as she did have the C-section. It is probably some fantasy the sculptor had.
Also I don't get the bear skin rug with the head still in tact. If this is an example of pro-life then why is there a dead bear under her that had no chance at life as some hunter wanted to shoot it and skin it??? I think it is a bit of a contradition.
I think that it is great that Britney wanted kids earlier in life. But I don't think her reasons were for pro-life - I think it was all about what Britney wanted. I think a good role model for pro-life would be someone who does it hard in life and gets pregnant by mistake, but changes their life around to look after their new baby. Anyway just my opinion.

By what criteria should an object d'art be judged? Seems whole careers exist for debate on the subject. Let's define this point by point.
1. Can the sculpture be identified as classical, romantic, rennaissance, impressionist, realistic, modern, post-something or other, or other?
2. Can you create something resembling it yourself? If not, shouldn't we as observers admire the talent it takes to manipulate metal into something resembling a pregnant woman on all fours holding a bearhead?
3. Would you show it to children or your parents? If not, doesn't that censorship say something of your proprieties? And should those proprieties be forced upon others by denying them the experience of even looking at such a creation?
Seems to me somebody took an awful lot of time to produce something that they wanted to see forever or to make lots of cash from its sale. Pro-life/Pro-choice... I don't see a connection with the sculpture either way. I do see a very canny artist making a name and increasing their prices by using good old ballyhoo.

I think that Britney Spears is definately the worst model for this, as yes she did freely decide to have this baby and it frustrates me to know that i am now 19 and have already had one abortion pretty much forced uppon me. I know that it was my choice at the end of the day but hey the thing that people dont realise is, yea it is pretty fuckin hard when you have two huge families and not one person out of those families is even going to look at you again if you have that baby... let alone no money at all to support it and no help at all.
Yes it was my decision but it has taken alot of time for me to be able to get over the fact that i killed my own helpless child. I am open viewed on the decision to abort or not to abort but when you have done it you cant help feel the pain... i am now pregnant again while using contraception and am still with the same partner from 4 years ago when i had my first abortion. We have choosen to keep this child as there was no way in hell either of us could go through our life knowing that i had had two abortions i am working my ass off everyday and saving like there is no tommorrow as so is my partner... there is no doubt they hey this is gonna be hard but i am gonna fight for what this baby wants and needs..
The point is it pisses me off to see Britney as the symbol for my experience and others experiences of abortion and birth when i am working my ass off wanting the best for my kid when she aint struggling at all the only thing shes struggling with is her dumb husband whom she should never have married in the first place, she choose to have her kid and she has enough money for 20! Shes got it easy the complete opposite to what women who have accidentally gotten pregnant usually have it.
She doesnt even care about her kid enough to strap it in a car seat. I think more soon to be mothers in my situtaion should be praised and encouraged with at least a suitable model. Let alone a model on a dead bear. when your trying to represent birth not death! what is wrong with this world... it should be named "celebrities and sex are everything" as this is the only message i see in this waste of a sculpture. Portraying Sex and birth in the same message is wrong in itself!
It hurts me to see this sculpture as the artist has talent but a completely sick and digusting mind. Where is he working from the mental institute???

Britney had a PLANNED C-Section. Anyone know how this "statue" depicts Britney's actual labor and "supposed" example of Pro-Life????? The article states she's a great role model of a "young, successful Hollywood figure who chose family over career." She was DYING to get pregnant cause K. Federline had 2 already and nobody outdoes Brit!! She and all future offspring and future husbands are set for life. She's not abnormally BRAVE, she just chose not to abort. That's all it takes to be a Pro-Life role model?? Oh, and the statue itself is pretty freaky and perverted on many levels. Make a statue of her sedated during her "I don't HAVE to push... I'm Britney Spears" Ceasarean and I doubt it will have the same 'message'. Some perv will love it just as much, though.

while i can appreciate the artistic integrity of the piece, it certainly doesn't look like britney spears, and yes, the bear is incredibly ironic. i have, in fact, seen/heard of women who give birth while kneeling or squatting, and even on all fours, but it seems to me that her back is too arched to be a realistic birthing position. i'm no pro, obviously, but i think the artist couldn't decide whether he wanted to create a beautiful silhouette or if he wanted to be somewhat true to a real birth.
i just wish he used a different person to model his work after; at the very least someone who has actually given birth naturally.

i'm no britney spears fan, and i'm not really a fan of this particular piece of art, but that's not really the point is it? this is art. it is an expression of the artists views. i once saw an exibit of an old mattress stuffed with rotting cake suspended from the ceiling of an art museum. not my taste either, but once again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and so it art. and as for pro-lifers choosing britney spears as their "model", why not? she isn't anything special just for having a child, but isn't having a child always special? but i do have to give her this: she is in a very unforgiving buisness. after pregnancy and birth, she has no assurances that she will ever work again. she realized that and made the conscious decision to have her baby, and now everywhere you look she is getting put down for being a little heavy and unkempt. and furthermore, britney spears did not make herself rich and famous, we (the public) did.
